La Mère, Marie Michielssen’s first ceramic tableware line, is an affectionate ode to maternal figures and women in general. The tableware feels subtly nostalgic, yet innovative in many ways thanks to its vertical structure. Each shape is unique and moulded by hand. All pieces are finished with a glaze in off-white or warm dark brown, almost black. As a third, contrasting colour, Marie chose a rich Venetian red. The designer deliberately selected these colours to encourage mixing and matching off-white with dark brown or red with dark brown.
