Description
Mahila placemats are made for lovers of refined simplicity, beautiful table settings and impeccable craftsmanship. They come straight from the Kandal province in Cambodia, where they are hand-woven from river rush.
Their crafting requires patience and time: after harvesting and sorting the rush reeds, they must be dyed and dried before being hand-woven over two days. Tactile and striking, these pieces age gracefully over time.
Their colour can develop a beautiful sun-bleached patina. Their unique patterns are finished with delicate black fringing. Woven using traditional methods, Mahila placemats are meticulously made by women at home on looms set up beneath their stilt houses. Working from home allows them to unleash their creativity and talent while avoiding tough factory environments.
